Two Many Nominations

We never had that problem. I don't have any advice or suggestions.

If you have a nominating committee, this really shouldn't be an issue. A nominating committee is supposed to present a slate of candidates -- one for each position. If there is nobody volunteering to run for a position, then it is their job to recruit a candidate. If there are multiple people expressing interest in a position, then it is their job to choose one to be part of the slate.

If that's not what you are asking these folks to do, then they aren't really a nominating committee. Perhaps they are an election committee empaneled to draft a ballot. If their job is to solicit volunteers to place upon a ballot, then they shouldn't be filtering the choices.

Either way, I don't see that you can have too many candidates.

Thanks guys for your thoughts...remember I am only looking at what to do if we do get to many nominations. I hope we at least have 2 in each office if at that. I know that last year we had (2) for president and not knowing neither canidate didn't vote. I only voted for the people I knew.

Whoa!! That would be so cool!! Too many people!

We have our nominees submit a little something about themselves which is printed in the newsletter. We also have a discription of each position avalable at the nominations night so parents can read and accept or decline without saying they didn't know what to expect. The job descriptions are directly from the by-laws.

We usually have only one person who wants each position- sometimes we don't have anyone for a particular position until the start of the new school year. If you decide to run, you submit a paragraph about yourself to the nominating committee. On the night of elections, these are handed out so the members can familiarize themselves with who is running. Even if someone is running unopposed, they still have to be voted in at a meeting by the general membership. If we had more than person who wanted a postion, we would just take a vote.

What do you do in the case of too many nominations?.......... Has anyone had a problem like this before.

I wish we had this problem. I think all of your ideas are great. Unfortunatly, we rarely have one person willing to run for an office, let alone enough that we would have to stage interviews. If you indeed get many people interested, I think you are on the right track asking for a paragraph and doing the interview process. Good luck!!
