Well, if you are a PTA, you have some somewhere. Contact the state PTA, they should have a copy on file. Sounds like they would be badly in need of review, so you should arrange for a committee to do that. Part of PTA by-laws is the automatic inclusion of certain sections as provided by the national and state PTAs, so I would get that done before you turn a copy over to the district.

If you are a PTO, then there is no state or national organization. So yes, "just come up with some", approve them at a meeting and hand them over.

And if it turns out that there is a copy somewhere, announcing the process of writing official by-laws may make somebody suddenly remember that old shoebox under the bed.

Our school district or school has never been given any by-laws, my question is what do we do ? Do we just come up with some of our own that would fit our needs for our children and schools? I would really like to know what to do I'm currently the secretary but do not know what is required of me to do a good job for the committee and school. I don't want to make a fool of myself in front of everyone and past committees. Please Help!
