Make sure you maintain copies of those records and like Crystal said... you and whoever else is willing, should go to the President and ask directly.
As for bylaws, a few years ago we revised ours. First we discussed the fact that they needed revision at a regular PTO meeting. General membership voted to have the Executive Board look over them and propose what changes should be made. The Board did that and at the next meeting the Board and general membership went over the proposed changes together, made some more revisions and re-worded a few things according to the wishes of the general membership. Then we voted to accept the newly revised set of bylaws.
thank you for your reply. the problem with the other officers is there is 8 of us, 2 of which work at the school(which makes the principal their boss) 2 others have never been at a meeting or taken part in any activity. that leaves 4 with the pres being one of them. my co chair feels the same way i do about the situation and so does the treasurer, but the treasurer is employed by the school. im really considering go to the superintendant with this matter. we have no budget, the bylaws only state the duties of officers, not a word mentioned about the handling of funds, parents and teachers alike are kept in the total dark about everything. i really fell the whole thing needs to be reviewed and revamped, but how do i go about this??
Oh don't principal's hate any negative public information! If you have total concrete information that can be verified and you have the support of the other officers you must protect your group. This type of scandal puts a organization at jeopardy of losing the families trust which is usually devastating. You should present all the information you have...along with the other officers and straight up ask the President about the funds. You as the fundraising chair should have to give a report to the membership concerning profit and how can you do that knowing funds are missing?? As far as the principal goes you have brought it to his attention out of respect and probably the hope of a little guidance, you need to let him know that you can't let a thousand dollars go, and that you hope he agrees that a cover up is much more damaging than the truth. It may be a simple error...hopefully...but if it isn't you must find a way to have the funds returned with out too much scandal...because the children still have to go to school there and to hurt them is not worth a thousand dollars.
ther has been numerous documented instances of funds being mishandled, all of these involving the president. because of this mishandling we are now missing approx. $1,000.00+. i being fundraising chairperson brought this to the attention of the other officers, then to the principal, with documented facts and figures. i was called to the school latert that same day for a meeting. i was informed by the principal that this documentation should not have been done. that we should not commit anything like this to paper, what if the parents found out? I feel this is a serious problem, and would like advice onn how to handle this. this is not the only instance of disorganization with in the group, please help!!
