Go straight to the source. Send an email out to all of your executive board members and the principal. Explain that you understand that meetings were called in a way counter to your bylaws. Attach a copy of the bylaws to the email. Require that every recipient of the email reply to you confirming that they received the email and the attached bylaws.

Follow up with an executive board meeting, including the principal, to clear the air and get everyone back on track.

Does your PTO have by-laws? If so, what is the reference source for those by-laws? And, what do your by-laws state with regard to the responsibilities and limitations of each board position?

Without going into a huge, detailed post about certain issues, I have a general issue that I need to know how to handle. The treasurer of our PTO called a meeting and did not include me (the president) in the meeting. The meeting was to disucss on overage on a budget item. He met with our principal and other board members and when he was asked where I was he lied to the principal and told her that I was unable to attend. I was available and i was never contacted.

First and foremost, I am angry that this board member called a meeting without my knowledge, but moreover, I am angry that he lied and misrepresented me in this meeting. Lucklily for me we have an awesome principal and she would not conduct the meeting unless I was there.

It has been an ongoing problem with several members of my board who are very "cliquey" and do whatever they can do undermind other members of the board. I feel that I am a good leader and I have done a good job thus far, but I am at a loss as to how to deal with this type of behavior. HELP!!!
