The missing membership monies from last school year is water under the bridge. Nothing could be proven. As for the current financial questions, two levels up of PTA supposedly audited the books. I don't know the results of that audit yet.
I have decided that I'm going to finish out this year, and then volunteer for another organization next year. I will ask my son's teachers if they need any help, but beyond that doing stuff for the PTA "for all the kids" isn't going to be one of my activities!

The middle school PTA is dysfunctional. Last year over $1000 in membership monies disappeared. Suspect that one of the executive board members is pilfering money from concession proceeds. This same person is on staff at the school, and apparently collected money for something for the staff, but the "numbers didn't add up."
There are very few committees -- instead, all events are expected to go on, so the same people do over and over again. It is very unpopular to make the valid of suggestion -- no committee/chair, no event.
Treasurer suspect -- special audit by the District PTA, so treasurer resigns. Last year's required audit showed a deficit of nearly $1,000.
Questions discouraged. That "the name brand of PTA must be preserved" maxim is taken to the extreme.
My son's only in 6th grade, and I am the volunteer coordinator. Part of me tells me to RUN from this position (I will finish out the school year). I just wonder if it's worth it to try and change this dysfunctional PTA's ways?
