Expanded School Day / ELT

16 years 1 month ago #143429 by MKD
Hello all!

I am a student in Boston writing a very large policy memo on extended school day / expanded learning time (ELT) programs in public schools. If any of you are familiar with the programs, have children participating (and hopefully benefiting) from ELT, or if your school district is considering to expand the school day could you do me a favor a respond to a few questions? I am trying to put together a plan for how to incorporate parents into this equation, to make sure the priorities of the school district match the concerns of the parents. Of course, your information will be kept secret and I am using this in a classroom setting. You can e-mail me (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or post on the discussion board. Thank you!

- How did you hear of the ELT program?
- If your child has participated in the program, what are your opinions of it? Satisfaction? Concerns? Best part? Least beneficial aspect?
- What has been the emphasis of the ELT programs? (Increased standardized test scores, English/math proficiency rates, extracurricular activities, extra homework help, cultural offerings, work-study partnerships, etc)
- What kind of input did your school district and/or planning committee seek and incorporate from the parents?
- Is your school in Massachusetts?

Thank you very much; I really appreciate your responses! If you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Thanks,

Marie D.
