It really does sound like she could care less as to the success of the group. If you've tried talking with her, then it really does appear to be time to move on to the next steps of getting her out of office.

LUVMYKIDS, we have tried everything! She says "I'll do the events..AND STUFF..but I have a family to spend my time with." Our Santa Shop only cleared a couple hundred dollars. Now this is a small school but at least three quarters of the kids shopped, what is wrong here... I'm new to the PTO but there needs to be some changes. Management needs some fresh faces. I don't want to cause trouble, I'd just like to help make things better. Our PTO is failing fast! Thanks for your time, it means alot!

ImTam, before you try to remove her, try to talk with her. Has anyone chatted with her about why she isn't attending meetings? Has anyone ever sat down with her and discussed the issue of volunteers not wanting to work with her? Don't leave out the step of trying to work something out first. Often times that communication can resolve the issue and avoid or at least reduce hurt feelings.

Thank you LUVMYKIDS. I'm reading bylaws now, and I believe it is possible, with a majority vote, to ask her to resign, or to be removed if she refuses. I hate to see bad feelings but something has to be done. Our bookfair is going on right now, basically with her alone, because everyone else has been dismissed... Thanks again

Yes, it would mean that she holds that office for two years, unless she resigns. If she has only attended one meeting the whole year, could she be removed from office according to your bylaws for not performing her duties? We had meeting attendance requirements for officers. Maybe she has gotten too busy with other things and would like to give up the office. You could put out some feelers about that option.

Hello. Election time is here and I need a little insight. Our PTO has had the same Vice President for the last 5yrs. I understand her term is 2yrs. In the past no one has run against her so she just gets re-elected, and our membership is getting smaller and smaller. This VP has only attened one meeting this year, and does not play well with others. This is why our membership is declining. My question is... does a 2yr. term mean she automatically holds the VP position for 2yrs...or...if someone was willing to challange her seat (after 1 of 2yrs.) can we hold our election involving the VP seat as well? This is my first year and still a little fuzzy. Thanks for any input anyone can give!
