Well there are no "PTO Bylaws" becasue PTOs are not garnered under one umbrella. If you are a PTA there is a difference. PTOs are primarily grass roots groups of parents, usually associated with one school, that join togehter and then legalize their functions using the bylaws they construct to support their schools. They are subsequently "legal" through the submission of paperwork that allows them to become IRS 501c3 (not for profit groups) and incorporated organizations (meaning they are a recognized legal organization in the state within which they exist) and not necessarily in that order (usually incorporation comes first and the IRS paperwork submission and recogniation however, incorporation is not mandatory for IRS 501c3 recognition).....so it's hard to determine from your question what the issue is. Many of us partner all the time with local businesses for spirit nights to pursue fundraising opportunities...Cici's NIghts, Chick-Fil-A nights. I think you'll have to be a bit more specific to garner valuable responses...

The local PTO in my town has partnered with a local business organization (another non-profit). What do the PTO's bylaws say about such a partnering? Does anyone know? I was always under the impression all monies taken in by a PTO had to be used for educational needs, not advertisement needs.
