In a tax quandry

We need help with our PTO! Evidently the PTO has been filing the wrong tax form for the past few years! Last year new officers, of which I am one, were elected and were surprised to learn this. Evidently the prior officers ignored all the letters the IRS sent reguarding this issue!

The first thing we did was contact the IRS and hire an accountant to help us to refile the past tax forms. All that was sent in earlier this year. We went on about our business, saving some monies aside in the event that the IRS chose to fine the organization. We got the fine yesterday, and boy was it a whopper! More than $7,000! We have next to nothing left to start the year off! Our group is an energetic one, and willing to work hard to start over, but I am sooooo angry/upset/dissappointed/betrayed at the poor job that was done in the past! These ladies have since moved on with their children to Jr. High, where they can wreck another PTO! I am sure that the IRS feels that justice has been done by incurring these fines, but the people who were responsible for them are totally off the hook.

Perhaps it would be better for my health to just keep moving forward and do what needs to be done to earn monies for the school this year, letting the past go. The situation blows, but it is not the end.
Any thoughts? Thanks for you input!
