Incorporation filing form

Check out the rules for your state. If it's a relatively easy process and small fee, then go for it. It's a good idea. Looks like it's only a $20 fee and a fairly standard articles of incorporation (AOI).

My school's PTO incorporated in 1985, but they only filed for the 501C3 under the state. I am now doing the legwork to get the Federal 501C3 status. Being incorporated, it protects the organization more.

I've looked on the Secretary of State website for Michigan and cannot find the form listed for incorporating. The start up kit suggests incorporating but how many PTO's actual do this? Pro's and Con's?
