She definitely isn't a control freak well I guess she would be but most of the time she has issues following through. I would think the main problem is probably getting the help. But I know many times she has been offered help and then doesn't take them up on it. Then she complains about not having the help but she doesn't follow through with them offering either.

I am definitely not angry in any way with her. But I know I am going to have to have a conversation that will not be easy
I think I will be attending their next PTO meeting to address the officers directly and possibly visiting the principal at the school to get her take on things also. But I would rather do this than have a bigger problem latter.

Thanks for the advice ladies.

I actually had to sit down with a good volunteer this past year and talk to her about some complaints we had gotten. I went to my principal first, and we talked about what the outcome could be if behavior didn't approve, with that backing it made it easier.
When I went to sit down with the person (who was a friend) at first she got on the defense and I calmy said "im not going to talk to until you calm down" I had to say it twice and she did calm down. Into the conversation she admitted to behavior that I wasn't even aware of. Through out the talk I told her how much we appreciated her, but how we need to keep things smooth for the kids. I made reference to administration and that way she knew that it wasn't just coming from me. Words of advice, don't go into it angry, stay calm and if she starts just stop talking until she calms down. If you have specific situations you can point to do that as well.Good Luck...sometimes we all just need to be called on what we are doing!

I think first you need to determine is she trying to do it all herself because she is a control freak or because no one else is stepping up to help her out.

If it were me I would just sit her down and rather than being accusatory ask her what the problems are and how you can help her fix them. Let her know that their not taking care of things is affecting the other groups and that you need to figure out a way to make it better.

Now if she is a control freak that is a larger problem. I have been under a president in the past that was a control freak and had to do everything herself. Getting her to let go will be difficult as she will probably still try to micro manage everything.

If it is that others in the group are not stepping up then maybe some of the other group leaders need to attend one of their meetings and give them a pep talk and try to get them to step up. Clearly there should not be board members who are not willing to do anything or they should not be on the board.

I am president of our primary school but also president of our Coordinating Council which oversees all our pto's at each of our schools primary, intermediate, middle school, high school. For the most part we each run separately having our own funds etc. but lately we have had problems with our Intermediate.

I am not sure how to go about telling this president that she needs to get control of her board. The key issues have been not paying bills on time which affects us other PTO's doing business with them. They have no communication between each other especially the president and the treasurer, getting volunteers for events, and basically she has problems overseeing events. She takes on everything herself and doesnt delegate but then doesn't follow through she takes on way more than she can handle. On the otherhand we are friends and she has an awesome heart. It so hard mixing business with pleasure. They leave mail in the school mail box for weeks on end and not following with up with many things because of this.
They are really creating a bad name for the PTO's and many parents are saying things which I know happens but its to the point where parents don't want anything to do with this school.

Any suggetions on how to approach this dilema????
