dlf, if you search the words 'discplininary measures' in robertsrules.com, they have an good set of rules to follow that you could adapt to your needs.

Mine says:

Section 5 – Removal

Any officer or agent, such as a committee chair, may be removed by the Board whenever in its judgment the best interests of the PTO would be served thereby. The method of removal shall be by 2/3 vote at a regular or properly called meeting at which a quorum is present.

The wording isn't quite as involved as dillons' but it's been effective. It's amazing how many of our problems were remediated by just including that clause in the bylaws.

It does--thanks--I hadn't thought about the 5 members in good standing part. That's a good way to keep the action from being a frivilous end to a personal situation. Thanks...I'll post what I come up with at the end after I get inputs...

We had a problem a few years back with a member that was very rude to other members and tried to take control of any meeting that we had. This member never got involved in any PTO event, just wanted to tell everyone else how to do their job. It got extremly bad throughout the year and after a confrontation with myself and the principal, the member quit coming.
In the end we ammended our bylaws to cover this situtation in the future. Here's what ours say now.

Discipline
-Charges of professional dishonesty, working against the principles and purposes of the organization and/or injuring the professional standing of another member, may be filed in a written statement, signed by 5 members in good standing, and submitted to the executive board.
-The accused member shall be notified in writing of all allegations and shall have the privilege of being present at a special meeting of the executive board, at which time the charges will be addressed and considered.
-A member shall be suspended from the organization by a two-thirds vote of the executive board.

We've never had to use this procedure, thank goodness, but it helps to have it thee.

Do any of you have a well worded clause for removing a member whose behavior is so aggregious as to warrant that action. We're updating our bylaws and I'd appreciate seeing another bylaw with that intent. Also any procedures that you delineated would be very helpful. I've done a search but cannot find the specific wording.

We are not in that situation now but expect that it is best to put something in the bylaws when you don't need it so when you do it is there.
