Entire board resigning! How do we do it?

Gotta ditto CC--don't let the horses (or horse) run all over the cart. It is loaded with a bunch of children that are benefitting from your approach. d

The silver lining here is that your initial feelings about this family were correct. Getting involved in their self-serving plan would have been the first step down a very slippery slope. Good for you and your team for following your instincts and making the right decision.

In addition to everything CrewChief said,I suggest getting a gavel and a security guard. If everyone else involved is fine with the situation, and I also recall it and reread your post on it, don't let one family run you out because it sounds like you guys are doing a good job.

I'm wondering though if your principal IS behind you on this, since he is the one who isn't getting the laptop?

WAIT! wait wait wait wait wait. OK, it took that many 'waits' for me to actually be able to verbalize my shock. The entire executive board of your parent group is resigning because of one family?

I recall your issue from another post. The principal is fine, the 3rd party is fine, the parent group is fine but one glad-handing, aren't-we-great family is mad and ruining it for everyone?

This needs to stop now. You and your fellow board members need to reclaim your seats, reclaim control of the group and, most importantly, reclaim control of the meetings.

Address, in writing, the details of the earlier issue, including the final decision that was made. Send copies to each board member, the principal, the school board and the 3rd party.

If, at your next meeting, these same people show up with the intention of disturbing the proceedings, explain that the agenda is set, there is a time limit for each item and disturbances will not be tolerated.

This is a serious issue. Your principal, superintendent and school board need to be behind you. Perhaps if they attend the next meeting and present a united front these trouble makers of yours will be less inclined to be a problem.

Entire board resigning! How do we do it? was created by colleenalain
We've had a very rough month at our organization. We were blindsided by a complicated donation offer by a family which involved a third party organization. This raised issues with the principal who was looking forward to receiving the donation. After spending many hours dealing with the issue, which keeps rearing it's ugly head, the board is fed up. We have been totally upfront in our dealings and have earned kuduos from the third party company for being so honest however the atmosphere is terrible and the rumour mill is running wild with speculation. We are finding it difficult to perform our duties in this capacity as the subject will just not go away. I should make it clear that the donor family are the people not willing to let this go and are on every item we bring up. Our usual 1.5 hour meeting was 2.75 hours long due to the constant barrage of issues from this family. One officer has already resigned, two are resigning next week and the 4th is still deciding.

How do we resign when there is no provision for it in our bylaws? What do we do in the event that nobody is noinated to replace us or volunteers to run for office? Do we have to disband if no-one is there to replace us?

HELP! Any advice is appreciated.
