pto board help!!!

yes we have bylaws that we voted in but if they dont like what the bylaws state or if it is not in there favor they go to roberts rules and say at the meetings well roberts rules says it's ok.

or for insistance i tried to amend the bylaws at the last meeting and the vp said no you can't for 30 days cause that is what roberts rules says and i said but our bylaws say we can at any meeting with a 2/3 vote at any meeting.she threw a fit and no you can't because i read roberts rules and it said you can't.

so i don't know how to get through this. i am in the pto to better the school she is trying to control everyone. this is very new to me but the vp is too much to deal with.. help!!

If you have defined by-laws that have been approved by the membership, those rules take precedence over any outside document (except of course for state/federal law such as the tax code).

The key phrase is "approved by the membership" If the membership hasn't decided how the group is to be organized and run, then those by-laws are not official.

hi i am the president of our schools pto we are a small school and this is the first pto for this school..my problem is my board thinks if they dont like what is in the bylaws they can bypass it and go to roberts rules. i tried letting them know that roberts rules are secondary to the bylaws but they tell me that we go through roberts rules first how am i to handle this.what is the right way???? please help!!
