Teacher Reimbursements

18 years 1 month ago #104081 by LUVMYKIDS
I have purchased Staples gift cards as gifts for my kids teachers, and the PTO got a letter from them with a promo deal where you save some money when you buy a certain $ amount of cards. Most of our teachers buy supplies like construction paper, crayons, tape, glue, etc. all stuff that can be purchased at Staples. I don't know that I would give them their whole allottment that way because they do need other things too, but it could be a handy way to handle some of the purchases.

I buy the prepaid credit cards for nieces & nephews. They love to use them. They're Simon gift cards that you can buy at any Simon mall and they look just like a VISA. They cost me $2 each when I buy them. Depending on the number of teachers you have, that can really add up.

Like ScottMom, our group also requires receipts for reimbursement and it's a one shot deal. They submit all receipts at once. Less than $100 total gets reimbursed at face value. Over $100 gets the full amount of the $100 reimbursement.

We require receipts but we do not allow for a million different turn ins. They get one chance to be reimbursed. Most of these checks are written in the first 6 weeks of school or the last week of school.
I have never been a fan of gift certificates because no single place would make everyone happy, but if I had to pick a place our staff prefers, it would be Walmart-more bang for the buck.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I wanted to know if anyone here for giving the teachers an allowance for school supplies ever used a gift certifcate for a store. What store did you use?
We were thinking this might work out better than writing say 75 checks for each teacher and having to keep track of the receipts. They all spend way more than the $50.00 that were giving them so trust is not an issue.
