Bummed Out... Wanna Just Give Up!

18 years 4 months ago #103435 by ScottMom#1
When I went through a similar thing, I didn't give up, I ran for office so I could make those events happen. Keep in mind, fi they don't want to do something, you can make it happen on your watch and take the credit for being so successful. Hang in there.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I am so bummed out right now as I just came from our PTO meeting and it seems as if every idea me & my friend presented was "tabled" for later. Though we are only members and not officers, we are the ones who really are doing all of the work. Note, our PTO & school is very small; and there are about 5 of us total that actually make events happen, so it's frustrating when those who don't pitch in to help are the ones conducting the meetings & saying "nah, let's table this for now." I know how "everybody thinks they do everything" but this is really true in our case! I have spent countless hours organizing, researching, and racking my brain for ideas to make our PTO better and to help generate $$ for our school... only to be told with every idea "let's table this"-- Are people really that lazy or are they just too busy to even care?

I guess I'm just more frustrated than anything because of the time I have invested. I mentioned having a fall fundraiser and there would be no work involved for us really, and the return is great, etc. Seems like an easy way to earn at least 10 grand for school improvements. I spent 3 HOURS of my time talking with a representative from the fundraising company about this & trying to coordinate it... only to be told at tonight's meeting, "let's table this idea until we find out what other organizations are going to sell"! There wasn't enough time to explain the program and how it works, etc. and it just doesn't seem fair. And, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining by no means - but like everybody, my time is very valuable. I own my own business, so I work just like everybody else, and I probably put in a lot more hours on a daily basis if anyone ever counted... but that's not the point. I enjoy doing PTO stuff, that's why I do it!

Has anybody out there ever encountered these type of obstacles? And, if so, how did you overcome them? I just feel like giving up.

Thanks for your advice/suggestions/input.
