A few years ago we had a lady asked to be reimbursed for something similar. She put it this way: She would go all around town, and beg for donations (She was DARN good at it), IF we would give her gas money. Gas was probably less than a buck a gallon back then. The group said yes. No one else has ever asked that I'm aware of.

we do not do this, it seems like it would open up a can of worms everytime someone had to get something for your group. I guess I just see it as part of volunteering, I actually have never had anyone ask for this in the four years I have been leader. Heck I would be owed hundreds of dollars by now, I think if it is a hardship for this mom maybe there is someone who is closer and can help with the picking up. I would be afraid that you would get alot of comments about this occuring, that is just my thoughts.You dont want parents to think their fundraising efforts are paying for gas... Anyone else?? I am curious what others think/do!

OK new to PTO and I'm the treasurer. My president and I have a disagreement with the Principal.

We will be having our fall carnival shortly and we have to go around and get our donations of and raffle items from the various business sponsors. The president is doing all this and she will be going all over the city, one place she has to go is close to 15 miles one way! She and I were talking that she shoudl be reimbursed a bit for gas since prices are so high and she has to use her personal vehicle for this. I agreed and told her I had no problem with giving her a bit for whatever gas was used if she kept a very detailed mileage log for the day she did this. The princiapl says no we can't do this because it's unethical. I say it's not. Neither of us would ask under normal circumstances but iwth gas $3.29 and up around here it's not asking too much IMO.

What do you all do? Is this unethical? Need some advice and thanks in advance
