IRS and Unincorporated PTOs

making that much money you should be filing. There is like this guideline if you make more than 25,000 in your first three years you should be doing it. Does your group have an EIN number? That is where to start. We file form 990 because we are tax exempt(501c) which requires other papers to be filled out and then you need to get approved as a non profit. I am not sure what forms you would since you are not non-profit there are alot of other people on here who knows alot more than I do...they taught me. okay JHB and Critter where are you two? It depends on the way your group wants to go.

I'm taking on Treasurer responsibilities for our PTO this year. We are not incorporated, revenues above $50,000 per year, and have not previously filed anything with the IRS. Should we have been filing in prior years? If we're supposed to file, what forms should we use?
