Co Pres Dividing tasks

A friend and I thought we could take on the Prez job as co-chairs. It was not a workable solution for us, but others have manged it successfully, so it can be done.

Definitely communication would be key.

It sounded good in theory (to us), but there was a lot going on and decisions had to be made quickly. Either someone felt left out of the loop or decisions got delayed. I wouldn't do it again, but that's just me. But we were in a real state of flux and things were kind of crazy. It probably wasn't a good time to try to split that office.

As I said - many have said they handle it this way and it works quite well.

I am co-president at our school. We each have different strengths. Last year she was the only one who could be at school during the day, so she did most of the at school contacting with staff, etc. She helped with the yearbook and things on campus. I did the letter writing and copy making (since my boss lets me use the copier at work). I ran the meetings, because I am more outspoken than she is. She had as much input as I did. It worked perfect for us and we are doing it again this year! Good luck

cindy we will also be doing this for the for thr first time. Two parents are training under me until February then I will step down as president and we will then have co-presidents. I have meet with them a few times and anxiuos to get to the real sit back and relax game. I am really going to push one to oversee event chairs and the other to do the everyday stuff (newsletters, communication, checking out fundraisers, student contests, calendar work,etc) will this work...we will soon find out. one leader is really an planner, an organizer, the other is more quiet and reserve. i am trying to find what tasks fit whose personality and strong points.the reason our group switch to co's was that I have been the only leader our group has has, no one wanted to follow that and no one wanted the job by themselves, so this gives parents the chance to try it. building a parent group from scratch is so different than running an existing one. everyone has different ways and personalities, I am excited because I truly feel that I have done everything that I could to get our group where it is at and I have faith in all of our volunteers and know that traditions will continue. I will be there for advice...I have new avenues to take..our new volunteer program!! Hopefully it happens....find your strong points and consider who would be better at that task.

Anyone PTO's that have Co pres? I really need your insight here its our first year doing this. And both of us are new PTO pres and pretty much all officers are new except the vp. I'm not sure how to divide all that needs to be done so both of us are not doing each others work.
I was going to divide up the events but some are just way more work than others not sure what to do there. Getting letters out, making sure things are followed up on by committees. I'm just not sure where to start.

Any suggestions.
