losing our secretary

Yeah, first lesson in PTOing, Grab those unsuspecting kindergarten moms before they know what hit them. Ha Ha!! That was my philosophy anyhow.

When I was pres, there wasn't even a secretary position. Just the three of us and the treasurer was the librarian so she was unable to help us for daytime events, physically.

The reason I became pres is because I was VP. When the pres resigned I was nominated at the next meeting. Then I got a VP who resigned exactly one year later (November). After taking a year off? I became secretary but had to resign due to schedule conflicts and other things. I was unable to make it to the meetings until late in the year but I think they waited a few months before they got anyone.

Take a deep breath. I take it the resigning person wasn't new to the board? You can do it. We've had all new board members before and survived. I know you can too.

Hey there!
We went through not one, but TWO, secretaries before our second meeting of the year last year! Both ended up moving out of the district. We simply split up the secretary duties until someone came foward who wanted the position... and the wait was worth it! We got a mother, new to the school, who ended up being one of our most valuable volunteers last year!!! Moral of the story: good things happen to those who wait. Don't stress... someone will want the job when school starts... maybe try a new kindergarten mom?

We just found out our PTO secretary for the upcoming school year will be moving an hour away at the end of July. Personally I don't know why she ran if she knew this was a possibility but that is just my opinion. Two of the three remaining board members, including me are brand new to the PTO Board. How would you go about recruiting and seating a new secretary if this were you? Obviously we don't have parents lining up, shouting "Me! Me! Pick me!" so we need to be a little creative here. We are meeting in a couple of weeks to try and come up with a solution. Anyone had to fill a position before the school year even started before?
