Thanks, I was feeling a little as if i was asking too much for the books to be handed over now. The 3 of us were voted in and all are available to do the audit now through next week. After that its all hectic with schedules. I will call the President and let her know that we are waiting.

If your Treasurer was given a date and is saying they aren't ready, I would say, "Too bad, give me what you have." Any time a Treasurer is given a decent amount of warning and then stalls, it bothers me. I know for a fact that it is not hard to keep up records and in fact is very difficult to try to do it all at the end of the year. At the very least you have a disorganized or unmotivated Treasurer, but if they don't meet this date, will they ever be ready? Also, do you want to risk that they are trying to cover up something? For next year, I suggest you ask for reports for every meeting(this means they have to keep things up to date) and then establish a date to have the books ready for every year and even if the committee isn't ready to review them, they are ready.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

If the fiscal year ended June 1 the books should be ready within no longer then 30 days and in my opinion thats pushing it. An organized Treasurer should have the books up to date and the only thing lacking should be the latest bank statement depending on when the bank you use issues it-and the audit can be performed up to a certain point without it. When I was in charge of the finances I did a mini audit every month so that it was easier to get an idea of where we stood at any given time- I would think this would be easier for any group. Also as our year ended officially on June 30 and the new one began on July 1 I had everything together by the last week of June at the latest for an official audit so I could have "fresh and clean" books immediately.
At any rate I would say that the books can not be handed over to the new group of people until the audit has been performed so the sooner the better. How were the Committee members assigned- by election or appointment? Do your By Laws state how many Committee members have to be present for the audit to be legit? If a date can not be arranged and the quorum of members can not be met perhaps someone else can help out in their place.

Our fiscal year ended June 1st, I am on the Auditing Committe and need to know when I need to do the Audit. At our last meeting, we, the Auditing Comm, stated that with vacations and schedules that we needed to do the audit in the middle of June, but he books are not finished yet. Each of us have different times that we will be away for vacations and such so what do we do?????
