Business solicitations and appreciation

We try not to double up, especially since Los Angeles (San Fernando Valley) is actually 30 little towns comprised of 3.5 million people plus a 1000 plus schools. Lots of competition for $$$'s and donations.
We send out national (most co's will only donate once per 12 mo's anyway) solicitations, then state and local business (because nobody has in the past- and now I'm involved and a!@# retentive-we have an excel spereadsheet with PTA-School-Other events) so the same company is not hit up twice..

We try to alternate when asking businesses for donations - and try to limit it to 2x year. Besides the newsletter we post a list of people and businesses that made the event possible(we do this at the event and on reminders sent home), thank them with a letter and a mention in the yearbook.

I have two questions about working with local businesses. Our PTP and athletic association approach local businesses throughout the year for donations and/or advertising. I feel as if we can become an annoyance, especially when different events are held close together. How do you handle this?

Second, does anyone have a Business Appreciation event or program of any kind? Besides listing those businesses who support us through the year in the school newsletter and event programs, is there anything else you do at the end of or during the year to say "thank you" for your support?

I look forward to hearing from you.
