I too am having a problem now with people who dont come to meetings but now that elections may be taking place, they all of a sudden are so concerned with the PTO. Give me a break. These people have started ugly rumors and have their followers hanging on their every word. These are the same people who couldnt be bothered to help out so many times now they want our "power". I know I could keep my position if I really wanted too - I'm just not sure its worth arguing and fighting with these people after all of the things they have said. I would still plan to help out any way I could but I dont want to be so closely associated with people who want to make it their mission to "fight the BOE and principal and put everyone in their place".
It would really depend on your By Laws or if this issue is not covered then ask the membership to vote on it. Good luck!
Our bylaws have rules about people being replaced if they can not attend meetings. It also has an exceptions for the members that let you knwo and are able to continue their work. If they aren't there, then who is doing the work and making the decisions? If that person is you, then mention it as one of your reasons for wanting the position. This situation is also why our group doesn't have co-positions because instead of having a chain of command it turns into a blame fest and no one is willing to step up and take control. I guess if these people want their positions again next year, then ask them if meeting times need to be changes so they can attend more than half of them.

We have two officers (co- vice Pres.) that have not made an appearance at our monthly PTO meetings in about 4 months. I do know that one is going through major work/family issues, but the other one no one has heard from.
My question is should they even be allowed to consider to run again for next year? I say NO and several people agree with me. I have thrown in my name for their position, but feel that if they want to run again, and it comes down to a split vote I should probably step down (just don't want to make waves) and just keep contributing my time, ideas (thanks to you guys!), and whatever else I can do.
I know that I have the support of the Principal, but not really sure of the rest of the board. Although that really is only the Prez., Sec., and Treasurer. I really don't think they will be a problem, but if they (co-V.P.s) get their followers to come to next months meeting and vote, I may not have a chance.
