Problem Treasurer

Prez,

It sounds like you've had some serious struggles with this Treasurer. I've been Treasurer for years for various organizations and cannot imagine withholding information from the "owners" of that money!!

These postings are old and got rather lengthy...so, I didn't read it all...But...didn't notice any mention of insurance. This Treasurer either can't handle the job and doesn't want any one to see that OR she is doing something underhanded!! We have insurance for the PTO (we get a discount for being NPN members) this insurance includes coverage for fraud by any of the officers. I would strongly suggest you get it!!

Thanks Tim! The principal has said she may dissolve the organization but I refuse to take that as my responsibility- if half of these people would put effort into actually helping the school we would be awesome. Yes this is not only stressful for me but for my family too and I dont want that. Time and distance sounds like a good prescription.
P.S. Carolee- I tried to email you but your mail came back.

Honestly, take a break.

It sounds like -- no matter what's happened or who's at fault -- that this situation is way overblown. I can't imagine this level of stress and unease is good for you or your family.

The parent group will survive your taking a break. Sometimes time and distance and perspective can work wonders.

Best of luck.

Tim

I appreciate the support and as much as it means to me I only wish it were coming from the people who have supposedly supported me in the past but who now have decided that I'm the cause of the troubles with the whole world it seems. LOL Finally the Treasurer called today -at first with an attitude. She wanted to know what she supposedly has not done. I asked her where the bank statement is. Oh she cant do that because I require 2 people to do it. So get someone to do it with you I said - the Co Prez, the VP, any member or even the school secretary can do it. No I do not want to drop what I'm doing because you finally decided to give us what you should have already done. I asked her about the fundraiser report - she claims that she cant do the report. I told her the figures were all on the tally sheet and all she had to do was transfer them- I sent her an email so she couldnt get it wrong. I asked her if she got the receipt book straightened out - of course not because when I gave her money I didnt give her the list of what $ belonged to who. I reminded her that I gave her the list not once but twice. Oh yeah she remembers that but she didnt deposit the money the way it was received -she combined it to make it easier to go to the bank. Ok - so how is that my problem that she didnt do as she should? Its not but she cant figure it out now. Well I cant figure out what shes done w/o the checkbook or at least a copy. I know that all the money is accounted for but the receipt book is supposed to coincide with the checkbook and now it doesnt.

Well one half of me doesnt want to resign and the other half doesnt want to listen to all the BS. These people now claim I have told the Treasurer how to do things that were wrong or incorrect and want to make sure everyone knows about it. (they cant seem to realize that anything she does reflects on me too so why would I give her false information?) They cant seem to tell me what I supposedly did either. But I dont want or need this negativity no matter that its not true. Would it be better to resign so maybe the organization can get back to doing what they're supposed to do? I dont want to be known as a quitter but when is it ok to finally say enough is enough and just walk away? I know I will miss working with the kids (as I dont see these new people calling me to volunteer) and yes the kids mean the world to me but how can I accomplish anything under these circumstances? The principal says she tells people she doesnt have time to listen and tells me to hang in there. How much am I expected to take? This is more stressful then any paying job I have ever had!

Oh yeah - I asked these people why the actions of the Treasurer is not foremost for them. (she has signed a check w/o the 2 required signature - though we would have approved the transaction; she has not submitted reports; she does not date reports or record transctions correctly; deposits have been held for up to 6 days) They say they have to take things one at a time. Seems to me the finaces of the organization should be of utmost importance here.
