Treasurer troubles

I have never faced your situation, but have a few thoughts. Does your PTO have a checking account, and are you an authorized signer? If yes, you could get back statements from the bank and check them against the last Treasurer's report. I would first be concerned that there could be fraud, and that maybe some of the money is missing. If the money is all there and the old Treasurer has just not gotten around to organizing the files and finding an auditor, perhaps you could offer to do this for her. I am sure there is something you could threaten, but it would probably depend on how your by-laws are written and how you are set up. Good luck!

Hi! I'm new here but it looks like I'm not the only one with problems. Thank God! I see that there are a few postings about ex-treasurer's not handing over books in a timely manner. This is my problem, too. Our school starts in early August, it is now almost Christmas. I have asked repeatedly for the ex-treasurer to have last year's books audited and to give me a balance. I can't even give an accurate report to our board. (I tell them what WE have put in and what WE have spent, but there was money left over last year.) I'd like to know how others with this problem solved it. What legal action can be taken (i.e., threatened). This year's board is completely new except for the historian who is now the (reluctant) president. Also, if critter's not too tired of e-mailing that manual, I would love a copy.
