hey thats an awesome idea on having the newsletter translated into another language.
I'll have to find someone who can do that for the group! I love this site!

I checked out our schools web site and realized that the last newsletter that went out was Feb 04'
So I took it upon myself to start a new on and it goes out the first week of Jan'05
I used a program on my home computer and the school is happy with the format. The teacher who used to write the old newsletters was so happy. He teaches and coaches the basketball team as well as tutoring for at risk students. So I think on one the right track. I've saved room in the newsletter for commercial business in our communtiy and am offering them advertisement space. I charged $5 for one ad per month. Back to the idea of the PTO Corner, I've done the done the same only, since it is a PTO newsletter, I've made artical space for the Principal Corner, Counseler's Corner, Custodian's Corner and a teacher's Corner. I am really proud of it and will post a link to the out come in Jan. That way you all can see it and maybe give me some pointers.

Can't wait to see it! When our school had a PTA, I used to do the newsletter, but we had to pay to have it printed at Kinko's--it was getting expensive. Not to mention we had to have it translated into Spanish. The school allows the PTO to run articles, announcements, etc. in the school newsletter, and it's been great!

Ask the school if you can write a letter for the newsletter to introduce yourself, talk about your plans & goals and what you would like the PTO to accomplish the rest of the year--and also plea for parents to step up and join the board or to volunteer at your planned events... let them know the PTO can't do it without them!

Hope this helps!

Congratulations & the best of luck to you!

It hepls so much! I never tought of that idea but it is one that is most important. These parents need to know who I am and what my intention are for 05'. So, I will start on this project first.

Thank you for the encouragement! </font>[/QUOTE]While we're on the newsletter subject, it may not be a bad idea to ask your principal if you can have a "PTO Corner" every issue. Let parents know how much you made on your fundraisers and what you plan to do with the money. Take this opportunity to publicize your meeting dates, times and locations.

Best wishes for a Happy Holiday!

There are a LOT of businesses that will offer a family night where the school gets a % of proceeds

restaurants (fast food, sit-down places, ice cream shops, pizza delivery...), skating rinks,
movie theatres, miniature golf, etc.

Naturally, they will want to designate a slow sales night since their point is to beef up business.

Our PTOs/Schools arrange these periodically. My neighborhood has a set program of "Give Back Wednesday". One restaurant is the 1st Wednesday, another is 2nd Wednesday, etc. on an ongoing basis. They give 10% of their night's proceeds to be split between our community library, swim team, and soccer association. So for each restaurant, it's once per month. For residents, we can just plan to eat out on Wednesday and benefit the community!
