board members too "busy"?

Do you have general job descriptions in your bylaws? If so maybe you need to come with more detailed job descriptions as a group and maybe it will occur to them how much they are "unable" to do.

I am PTO co-president, work four days a week, have two small children,my husband works full-time and goes to school three nights a week and I rarely miss a function or am unable to get my duties done.

I agree with Jen if there is a will there is a way!

The phrase "too busy" really irritates me. I am President and the other 3 officers all work outside the home. We make our parent teacher organization a priority and use e-mail like it was going out of style!

I work with a great bunch of ladies and it can be done by those working outside the home!!

Hang in there

A college teacher once told our class, Its never a matter of time , more a matter of priorities. This is not a bad thing, heck the kids have to eat and have shoes on their feet. What they are telling you is this is not important enough for me to spend my time on it. There are others out there always willing to help.

Thanks "mykidsmom" for your vote of confidence!
I wish we could get more people involved in our
Boosters, but we've done everything we can think
of. I will just have to go with the members I DO
have and let things fall as they may, and hope for
the best. Thanks!

My cape is at the cleaners and it will take two months for them to put the right amount of starch on it so that I can "fly" again.

...no? It's a thought! ;) I'm in the same boat this year. Three of our four board members have "day jobs" with me the stay at home. One is really great, I have no reason to complain about her but the others... One is SO despartate to be apart of her daughter's school but her job keeps her so nuts. It's sad.

I have found strength and help with my fellow moms that know the other Board members can't be there (we'll stick with "can't" ;) ) and are great about helping ME....don't have that? That's what I thought. Then I called a mom back that wanted to help, wish I would have called her sooner!

The other trick that I've had to learn is learning and using each others strengths and talents to benefit the end result. Maybe the one won't or doesn't like the leg work but if she would rather work the event...GREAT!! I've done that myself and just make sure the chairperson has a list of things/tasks for me so I know what she wants/needs done. With two little ones in tow, I'm not crazy about doing alot of extra shopping or running but I love to cook. One mom has a teenager so running to the store and getting what I need to cook for the staff is no big deal (or her teen will babysit so I can go with her mom). See what I mean?

Hang in there, get to know your members, it'll come. I've been here for a few years and amazed to see how truely different each year has been!

YOU CAN DO THIS!! :D

I'm the President of our Booster club and I'm having trouble with a few members. I seem to be
the only one ever showing up and doing anything.
Our Fundraiser Chairperson was to show up at our
fundraiser "kick off" assembly, but couldn't
show up at the last minute. Then there's the one
who doesn't want to do the "leg work", but wants
to be there for the events. I realize they work
full-time while I'm a stay at home Mom, but how can I get them more involved without seeming like I'm a mean person or something? I really like
these members and we have a hard time getting
people to join the Boosters anyway!
