new ideas for rewarding classes

Our principal started an attendance race when she came. We have a bulletin board in the main hall and every class has a sticker chart. Each day of perfect attendance earns a sticker. The goals are 25,50, 75, and 100 days. 75 days gets a double party. 100 days gets a field trip. The kids vote on the parties they want: Popcorn, Cotton Candy, Ice Cream, Pizza, or a Diso Party. The principal hosts each party. She is a party woman. ;) The kids and teachers love it. During Success Celebrations (now held bi-monthly instead of weekly), the "100 Lady" draws names for small prizes that are mostly donated. This grab bags of school supplies, cookies, coupons to local resturaunts, etc. The "100 Lady" also makes up songs for the whole school to sing.

During morning announcement (which the kids do) a student from each room gets to go up and announce their class has perfect attendance. The kids love to hear their room announced on t.v.

I too am getting tired of pizza and ice cream! I love the idea of "no homework passes" or extra recess, but this didn't go over with the principal and staff well. I like the Basha's idea, but as we have a hard enough time wringing blood from our local turnips this I'd never manage to get. The fish tank sort of thing is a GREAT idea, except that most of our awards are given at the end of the year, so the kids really wouldn't get a lot of enjoyment from that--is there another way I could spin these ideas?

at our PTO, we budgeted $50 for the class with the most parent participation (by percentage)with a total budgeted cost of $300.

The teacher could use that money in any way she wanted for the classroom. At our first meeting last year, the teacher of the 5th grade class told the kids she would buy a light and some fish for the classroom fish tank if they could all talk their parents into being there. We had something like 78% participation from the class that night!

We use the local grocery stores. One of our stores, Basha's, donates a $10 gift certificate every month as a door prize. Teachers and students love it because they can use it for whatever kind of treat they like, donuts, ice cream, supplies, etc. They can use them monthly or save them up for a huge party... it's up to them.

This will be my first time as a PTO President. I am trying to think of new ways to reward classes that " do good things" such as who has the most parents at the PTO meetings or who has the best attendance for the month. In the past, it has been a pizza or an ice cream party as a reward. This seems to be growing old with the students. Any ideas out there of what I could suggest at my next meeting on Nov.1. Something that would reward both the students and their teachers?
