Hi!

Does your principal attend PTO Meetings? If so why not make the discussion happen there. Get the parents who want something new come and voice their opinions regarding the fundraising and putting out ideas for other fundraising. Since it is the principal balking at the change, let her explain it to them. See what she has to say for herself in front of everyone.

Maybe if she sees it is not just the board and that no one is really happy with what you have, it might change her mind. It may also not change her mind, but at least she will see first hand that it is not just you guys who want the change.
The other parents will also get to see that it is not you whom aren't willing to make things better.

Hi Serendipity,
No there is nothing in our by-laws stating money or a limit of money to be left in the account. She is not game to any added fundrasiers at this time. We have so many parents who want to be a part of the PTO and they dont want the same fundrasiers that are in place but the principal just doesn't want change. Myself and the Vice-Prez feel like the old PTO officers are running the show from the back. They do not have kids at the school any more but while they were here the kissed her but!~
Thank you for your input!

Hi! I do not live in Ohio, but I can tell you that our PTO bylaws state that there are no limitations on what we carry over to the next year. I know because I recently checked it. Check your bylaws and see what it says. I do not believe there is any state limit put on PTO's, but I could be wrong as each organization is different.

It is hard when you have a principal that does not want to work with you and let you change things. Can you add another fundraiser during the year to make up for the crappy fundraiser your stuck with? We actually run a few fundraisers during the year. We like to give people variety so they can pick and chose whatever fundraiser works better for them. We have gotten great response on the 2 new ones we added. Many people said it was nice to have something else instead of having to buy the same crap year after year.

As for your interupting Treasurer...well I do not know what you can do except be honest with her. You will have to make it clear to her that she cannot just speak out of turn and keep interupting. Give her an agenda for the meeting and let her know where it is okay for her to speak.

Good Luck!

Hi all, Is anyone out there from the state of Ohio, or can anyone tell me if there is a limit the PTO is
is allowed to leave in the checking account from one year to the next? I was told from our schools principle that there is a stae limit but have never heard of it.
We had our 1st meeting tonight for the 2004-2005 yr. Needless to say we are in for a long and hard yr. The principle doesnt want us to change a few things, but how can you not change a low money profit making fundraiser. We also have a Treasure who keeps interupting the vice-prez and myself all throught the meeting it is like she needs to be the center of attention. Help how do we get her to stop. A few parents informed us tonight that they wont come to any more meetings if she keeps it up. I have tried to be nice to her by letting her know that I am the prez and she will get her chance to talk after the vice prez and I do what we need to.
Sorry that this is long I needed to Vent! Thanks for taking the time to read this.
