explaining themed baskets

21 years 8 months ago #92180 by PTCAPres
We just completed a very successful them basket raffle. Each classroom chose a different theme (Art supplies, Bird-watching, Playground Fun, Chocolate Lovers, Fall Gardening, Relaxation, Movies & Entertainment were very popular themes). Teachers or a room parent sent a letter asking for donated items or $2-$3 to purchase items. We had a gret response; we do give the money back to the classroom - it's their incentive to create a great basket!

I would say have each room parent decide on their "Theme" and send home a short letter, asking for donations. IE if you picked Italian basket, ask for things like the basket, Spaghetti, sauce, Parmesan cheese, Bread sticks, etc. Oh, and add bows/netting to the basket for appearance. And if they dont want to send items, ask for $1 donation each so the room mom can go buy stuff. Have the parents send either the receipt or a slip of paper with approx cost of the items so you know where to start your bidding.

I wouldnt give any money back to the teachers. The money you get from this fundraiser will be used to buy x,y,z for the teachers. Remind them what the money will go towards and that should be incentive enough. (AND I dont really think its ethical to do that.) You might give a prize for best decorated, or the first class who brings it in, etc)
Good Luck!

This is the first year we have tried themed baskets. How do I go about explaing this to the parents?? I don't want people to spend very much per item. Should I say $1 - $5 is all you should spend? Also, do you give a % of the baskets selling price back to the room teacher? I think this would be an incentive for the teachers to help out? Any thoughts??
