We aren't allowed to do raffles where you pay money. It is considered gambling by our district. You can do a free raffle but that is about it.

I am wondering why a PTO feels like it has to raise that much money. Since you have to file a form to the IRS if you make over 25K, what kind of projects are you doing for the school that necessitates the raising of $100,000????

The cost to you for the trip may not be worth it if you can't make money, and if you have to raise enought to buy the trip (as a buy back) you could probobly do a 50/50 (you sell raffle tickets and you keep 1/2 the winner gets 1/2.

I don't know where you live, but you may do better with a "package" you can get as freebees and then you can keep all of the money you raise.

can you tell me where you live? in general terms?

I just spoke to a local travel agent who was willing to help our school with a raffle. They will give us a trip at their cost. It isn't much of a savings, I think %10. The woman suggested that we figure out how many tickets we would sell and at how much per ticket, to see how much money we could spend on a trip.

The people at our school could not afford $100/ticket, no matter how could the prize is!

Let me preface by saying I have been working in school auctions for the last 5 years, mostly in technology and have recently steped up to chair and am running my second auction from start to finish this year.

We run a big auction, we raise 65 thousand last year and i am hoping for 75 this year.

the other school I worked for raised over 200.

The raffle works like this:

We took 10 items from our live auction, sold 100 tickets for $100 on the ticket the buyer could select wich of the 10 items they would like to win. Prior to the live auction the winner is drawn, that item is sold to the pta/o and then removed from the auction and the other 10 go back in.

If you don't have an auction with items worth $1000 or more (make the buying of tickets worth it)my religious orginization solicited 5 golf clubs for a round of golf for 4, many clubs WANT to give them away, and some HAVE to give them away. we packaged the rounds of golf together and again sold 100 tickets for $100. it is an easy winter put it together with a spring drawing just intime for golf season ( I live in the North East)

It costs about $300 to put the raffle together, 250 printed tickets and a letter explaining it. We sent home 1 ticket to each family with the letter and the first 100 back were in, (we did not sell all 100 on the first go around) so we offered the opportunity to purchase additional tickets.

golf had a lot of apeal outside of school to the larger community so ticket sales can be done to friends and family too. the overall package has value especially if they are private clubs not available for everyone to play, and for some it is all the golf they can do in a season.

The one school raised 7500 on the raffle (less expence and the second did 8800 and 9200. My religious orginization i still in the process.

This is a relitivly easy raffle, minimal on volenteers and could bring in $10,000 less cost.
