Simple Fundraisers

We did candy bars for the past 2 years; they are so much easier to sell than the brochures we're doing this year! We sent a note home with each child about a week prior stating that a $40 box of chocolate would be sent home with each child unless they chose not to participate. (We nicely stated that if they chose to accept the box, then they were responsible for returning the money or unsold choc bars.) We received about a 10-20 forms prior to the sale from parents not wanting to participate. If you put each child's name on his box, it helps to track who has returned unsold chocolate. In the end, we made a lot of money. Only 5 of 300 took chocolate bars without returning the money.

Parents are always asking us to do simple fundraisers in stead of catalogs. I'm constantly asked about doing candy bar sales. I love candy bars but my problem is most of our families are low income and I'm concerned about sending food home without doing a preorder first. Has anyone here done something like that are asked for parents permission to send home the candy bars so that they don't risk not getting the bars or the money back?

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris
