Yes I did get all the info.... thanks! I met with a few other mothers today and they love the idea... so now I want to try and fine tune it before going to the principal. Thanks!

Wow, this sounds so great! Our lunch time is really limited. Has anyone tried doing this during their block/special class time? Do the little ones participate with a pledge sheet too? How do parents generally feel about it?

Thanks,
Debbie

nofies- I forgot to mention that you still wouldn't want the bigger kids walking/running with the younger ones. It will get dangerous for the little ones. You have some students who are "going to have the most laps" and they will run every lap and run people over. I know, we had several issues come up where someone pushed someone just to get that extra lap before the whistle blew...

nofies - I think it sounds great. Did you get all the info that I sent you?

We could never do ours on a saturday because our parents wouldn't bring the kids

You could also get the "town" involved by doing a rocking chair contest. Maybe for the grandparents of the students. Who ever can ROCK the most wins some prize donated by some place. That would be a way to get more of the community involved. I had thought about doing this, but in our small town, I just don't know.

If you did this on a Saturday, you have a free range of things that you can do. Man, the ideas are endless.
Car wash, rocking chair event, inflatables, fun run, bake sale, bbq,you could do a hay maze if you did it in the fall, I see $$$$$ for your PTO!! Run with it. I think you will do fine, especially for the size of your school!

What if we held it on a Saturday morning.... all could participate at one time... I was thinking all participants could receive a t-shirt and that night we could host a dance with a DJ (we do that a few times a year) and admission would be free IF you have on a t-shirt. And.... if we reach our money goal I love the no homework for a week. Let me know how this sounds before I go speak with the principal.

nofieswife - you might have to have your walk-a-thon spread out over a couple of days, but sure...it will work for any grade level!! It would be hard to fit all those children walking in one school day. I might do a challenge between the grades with a reward that gave them an extra "umph" to raise the most money. Older children seem to be more competitive and would want to win whatever your PTO decided to give that grade level.
