live auction items?

The way I handle multiple items (and get the max. money for both) is to only offer one of the items during the live auction, then just as I think the bidding has ended or about to end, I offer the back up bidder the opportunity to buy the second item at the same price.

The idea behind this is this - if the audience knows there are two, they may stop bidding early, thinking that they will just wait to see if the second one sells cheaper. But if there is only one (or they think there is only one, they know that if they want to win the auction they have to keep bidding, often bidding higher that they had intended to go. Then just as they are about to give up, they may be relieved that there is a second item....

I had an auction last night with one of the live auction items being a parking space ate the front door for a year. In years past this parking space brought around $1000. Last night, the bidding kept going higher and higher and higher....

When the bids went over $6000, the school principle got my attention and offered to put up a second parking space if I wanted, so we sold two parking spaces for $6300 each!

Sometimes you just have to "Seize The Day" and be creative on the spot.

I am wondering if anyone has input on the following: I have some live auction items that are multiple (ie. vacation home for weekend -donor offering two weekend in two seperate bids) Do we present this together? or at seperate time? I also have 2 rides in a fire truck for 12 children each ride. Wanted to have this in two sep. bids also??? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
