5K Fundraiser

I am not an expert on this, but at our school, registration fees basically cover the cost of running the evnt. We make our money by selling ad space on the back or runner's tshirts and on the runner's bags. One local business donated $2000 and is on every handout, flier, reg. form and banner. We get free water from our local Whole Foods and other food for runners from other local markets. Hope that helps!

I haven't done one of these but I want to. I'm waiting for someone with race experience to step up to help. I've helped with one race but not a ton of experience. I'm thinking you'd have to consider expenses for some sort of water stands, official time keeping equipment (if you want to do this right), shirt numbers, pins, first aid materials, safety cones, start and stop flags and/or pennants...I'd also have an on site medical tent with first aid volunteers and you could do a 1 mile or half mile toddler trot or stroller stroll...I'd also want some committee identification system (like special hats or visors) and a mid way watering station. I know it all sounds like a lot for 5k and maybe it is...but I would think first about covering all the bases and then scale down. May even be able to do a "Beat the Principal or beat the teacher" sort of theme. Hmmm now that I'm writing this I'm actually getting excited about it ....good luck

Has anyone done a 5k fundraiser? We are thinking about this for Fall 2006 and would be interested in your experiences. I see the profit coming from registration fees and expenses from any permit fees and race giveaways (like tee-shirts). Am I missing something? We are a small private school with about 150 families. Anytie-ins suggested for people who don't want to participate in a run/walk? All advice appreciated.
