Is our PTO being robbed?!

Who organizes all those other fundraisers?
Is it your parents or is it faculty and staff?
That's a bummer.

I understand your problem and often it's unique to private schools (which we are.) Our PTO group actually makes most of the money and the Finance Committee of the school wants ALL of it and is a bit miffed we don't just hand it over, which we won't. BUT on the other hand, money that goes straight into the school budget offsets those tuition increases, which happen every single year at our school.

We do a big auction/party every spring. It is a bucketload of work but it raises alot of $$$. It's adults only, with a fabulous band, lots of margaritas, silent auction items, live auction of children's artwork (each class has an art item). Tickets are pricey: $75 each this year, was $50 last year, but that includes great food and drink and the band. All four private schools in our city do something along these lines. Cruise lots of websites and you'll get lots of ideas.
Good luck!

No fundraiser automatically belongs to any particular group. It just depends on how each one is initially set up. And that varies from school to school.

In our school, it's just gone the opposite way. We do still own boxtops and family events. But the sales fundraisers belong to the school (only two per year are allowed).

I am currently the President of our small, catholic school's PTO. I've been visting this web-site since my election and it has given me lots of wonderful ideas and advice.

It has also made me question the way a lot of things are being handled with our school and organization.

Along the lines of fundraising, our PTO is completely at the mercy of the *selling* fundraisers. Box Tops, labels, ink cartridges, scrip, Market Day, Walk-a-thon, penny wars. . . these are ALL being run through the school office or parish office. Which leaves our PTO nothing but *selling* fundraisers. This year, we did three fundraisers. Sally Foster (spring), Magazines (winter) and Avon (spring). We also have a spaghetti dinner and a small candle sale. I got rid of the Christmas Shop (it wasn't very popular) and did a Breakfast With Santa that went over very well (and actually MADE a profit).

Anyway, my questions is. . . doesn't the PTO have any kind of right to the funds produced by things like Box Tops, soup labels, etc. These are traditionally PTO fundraisers, aren't they? Our parents are all magazined and wrapping papered out, but we have no other options.
