Community Involvement

My school is small and we are about to have our Festival. I too am looking for ways to draw in the community. Of course we'll have signs by the roadway, but really, I doubt that too many people will just drive in off the street for a small scale school event.
The other ideas that come to mind from reading somewhere were to possibly have high school groups perform, so that would bring in their friends and family too, but I'm at a loss as to what specifically to look for. Band maybe? But that seems too large scale. Drill team? I just dunno.:-)
Any thoughts or ideas?

We invite the community to Grandparents Day, and Career day. We also invite local pre-k's to our santa secret shop. Our fall festival is open to everyone and we put signs up around town. We are a somewhat small, and the three big church's make announcements when we let them know something is coming up.

When we do PARP, we have a community readers day where we have some of the owners of the businesses, legislators come in and read to one of our classes.

we have members of our community on decision making teams, have had them come in and read, be guest speakers. You could do something like a fun night where the staff competes against the commmunity like family feud, you could invite different business in for like a career night, things like that.

I keep reading about how much community involvement helps our kids (with their education.)

Have any of you tried to draw in your local community?

What have you done?

How has it worked?

So far I've visited the website of the local chamber of commerce. They have their member list available for all to view. I have taken note of who their "Diamond" level sponsors. The next step is to write a letter to pitch to them why I think they ought to donate time and or money to our school.

Has anyone already done this? If so I'd love for you to share your letter. We really need community support for our Middle School and I'd like to be able to make it happen for them. :D
