Michelle--if I keep begging will you PLEASE move to my town and work your magic here??? We're planning on a walk-a-thon next Spring, and seeing not only the non-involvement of our principal but her borderlne undermining and thwarting of our efforts as well, I'm panicking we may not do as well as we could. By good prizes what do you mean?

I posted elsewhere--but FYI we did $12,000 at our Tricky Tray!!! That was with approximately 225 people there spending money. We would have made more, but didn't forsee a sellout, and didn't have enough ticket sale booths, and cut off selling too early. Oh well--lesson learned for next year!

For some of the high-cost things, our school has included a participatory donation thing -- when the gym addition was built, families donated $25 per tile (4" x 4") which they painted with the family name, good wishes, whatever, and those were fired and glazed and now there is a wall of the tiles in the hallway approaching the gym.

In building a schoolyard nature habitat that includes a boardwalk, families donate $25 per board that they can decorate and woodburn their name on, and those will be part of the completed boardwalk.

i'm all about the thons! The key to having any one that is successful is good prizes though. Our school last year raised $54,000 doing a jog-a-thon and I think this year they raised 60.

We like to do fundraisers where the children are involved. They feel that they efforts are what made the playground happen. We raised 12,000 from our walk-a-thon, didn't use a company for it, and had very little overhead (music, balloons, a really loud cd player). We also have the children donate their loose change to the playground project and in our first year collected over $3000. (We are a K-4 school of about 400-450 kids)

Sky--welcome to the boards!

Walk-a-thons seems to be your answer! We haven't had one yet, but from the input on these boards and my discussions with local groups, this is the way to go. Tricky Trays (PC term for Chinese Auction) are a lot of work, but also tremendously successful at raising funds. We're having our first for our playground in a couple of weeks, I'll post to let you all know how it went!

Hi all I am new to the forum but would appreciate any and all input.
Our school is looking to do a fundraiser to raise money for a new playground. The cost is going to be $20,000 and we have no idea what type of fundraisers to have. The catalog sales are not a big success.
Please help. We are located in Massachussetts
