EBay Auction

I have sold on eBay for a few years. It's not as easy as it looks.

You need to get pictures of your items that you can post on the web, fill out eBay's forms and cross your fingers. If you list your starting bid too high, you might not get any bids. If you list it too low, you probably won't get what you need for the item. You have to know how much the postage will be for each item. You hope you don't get any non-paying bidders or really slow paying bidders.

eBay gets their cut of your sale, and if customers use PayPal, there goes more $$.

After everything is paid for, you have to box it up, label it, and take it to the post office. If you have fragile items you'll need bubble wrap, use packing peanuts, etc.

Then you hope that a) the package doesn't get lost in the mail, b) it doesn't get broken during transit, and c) the customer is happy with the item and doesn't want to return it. Some people change their mind when they see the item in person.

I've made money on eBay, but I've also lost money. I haven't noticed buyers being overly generous when the item is for a non-profit group. Most eBay buyers are trying to get things as cheaply as possible, which isn't meant in a bad way . . . I like getting things cheaply too.

You could probably do ok on eBay, but just beware that it's risky and a lot of work.

I am a Ebay addict or so my 7 year old tells me!! I just bought things on ebay for our annual PTO carnival! Over the past few years I have noticed several nonprofit groups selling on ebay & think it is a great idea! I saw Girl scouts selling old uniforms & more for $$ for camp, also one lady was selling magazines for her son's school on ebay! I love the idea & wish you luck!! I think it will be very successful!! Has anyone ever done an online auction through EBay? A local museum did this and I heard that they made a pretty good profit. We are not being allowed to do our annual auction this year (very long story), so I was thinking of doing this instead. Any ideas???
