Thanks for the ideas. We are acutally having a guest storyteller in March with an evening show. I think it would be a great idea to have it that night! I will have to tell the person who is chairing it about that next time I speak to her. I will let you know what we end up doing. Anybody else have any comments or ideas? :D

We are currently planning a book exchange, in conjunction with a Literacy themed Family Night. For the book exchange, we are letting each child bring in up to 3 books. They will receive a ticket with the # of books they brought in, and they can go to the tables and pick the same amount in new books. Volunteers will take the books and put them on the age-appropriate table.

We will also have a bookmark craft, which we will charge like $.50 for, and we'll have refreshments for sale.

Also, we are planning to hire a professional storyteller to do two sessions, one for 3-6 years and one for 7-10 year olds.

We are pursuing a mini-grant to help us pay expenses.

Hope this helps! I'd be interested to hear how you finally work it out.

We would like to do a book swap this year but are unsure how to go about it. Any ideas would be wonderful. We were thinking of having them bring in books from home one week and giving them tickets for each book they bring in. The following week we were going to have the books arranged by reading levels and let them come back through for trading on their tickets. We would like to raise money for our RIF program through this somehow, but are unsure how. It was brought up to do it on a weekend and have them pay $1-2 per child to come in and select new books, but to me on one hand that doesn't seem fair to charge them to get the books when they have already brought in books to exchange. On the other hand, we will have to sort the books and everything. We really need some help with this idea. Any thought, hints or past experiences would be welcome. Thanks! :D
