Thank you for your feedback - it's wonderful to receive input from folks who are deeply enmeshed in the fundraising scene.

One of the selling points to families is that they can organize their magazine purchases by consolidating and getting them all at one time through one source. Since there is no reason to wait until the end of a subscription to renew, families renew everything (no matter when the subscription ends) through the school and don't have to deal with renewing or purchasing their subscriptions one by one. The additional term is added to the present subscription, so that if your Time subscription runs until 5/05 and you add two more years the additional years run from 6/05 until 6/07.

It wouldn't be cost effect to have the sale ongoing - there are already companies that do ongong sales by setting up websites for schools and giving them 30% of every subscription sold in their name. In order for us to be able to give a school 40% or 50% profit the subscriptions would need to be sent to us at one time so that we can save man hours by dealing with a batch as opposed to a trickle.

As far as renewing the magazine through the school the next year - one of the most attractive points about this kind of fundraiser is that it's possible to build a base of subscribers who rely on the school to provide them with magazines year in and year out. Each year we will send a schools lists of past subscribers so that they can contact them with an offer to renew through the school - again, the subscriber benefits because all his magazines are being coordinated through one source, and the school benefits because even after a family has left and gone on to middle school, for example, they can still participate in the elementary school mag sale - and many will do so because of past ties to the school. After a few years the magazine sale base has grown significantly, and there are always new families joining the school as well.

Mykidsmom - Good to hear from another Coloradan. We're in the eastern area of Littleton that's now part of Centennial - but still Littleton Schools (old and crumbly but we love 'em anyway). I'll get in touch with you in the next day or so - thanks bunches for the interest.

Thanks again for the feedback -

what happens when the people renew the magazine subscription the next year? does the school still earn the profit when the publisher sends out that auto renew notice? or do you have to resubscribe through the school each year?

It should be a year round thing as subscriptions renew on all different dates. That would set you apart from the usual mag sales that are already included in typical catalog sales.
