maybe part of our problem is that the principal is known for "robbing peter to pay paul" so to speak. He sets aside 5500 to pay for roving subs so that teachers can have 1/2 day planning days during the school day 3 different times a year. This $$ comes out of funds that could also be used for supplies, new books etc. That is what the PE $$ went for. To cover another area so that he could fund his subs. Meanwhile, we are lacking in math manipulatives, reading level books for all classrooms etc. Unfortunately, there is a much more serious problem that just moving funds around. Do other schools give funding info to parents? Are you aware of where your SRA (School Allocated Resources are spent)? We are all unsure if this is something we have a right to see as parents.
I am playing Devil's Advocate here and I certainly do not have all the facts.
I am not so sure if I would be mad. Is it possible that this is a sensible move by the principal to give the money to more needed areas?
How much money did he take away from the PE teacher and did the PE teacher really still need the additional funds? If PE was given a climbing wall and $ to replace old equipment then the PE program may have been given a lot more then everyone else. With that in mind maybe there are other programs in the school that are seriously lacking funds and taking additional funds away from PE could make a huge difference somewhere else.
Did anyone actually ask the principal his reasons behind doing this?
Last year we sold cookie dough (through QSP) and raised funds for a climbing wall at our school. The extra $$ raised( we were about 2500 over) was to be used by the PE teacher to replace old worn out equipment. That is what our parent body understood the use to be. Just found out that since we had such a successful fundraiser, the principal slashed the PE budget down to the bare minimum and is using those funds elsewhere (not told to any parents). In a sense, he was penalized for having discretionary funds. Makes you want to never sell anytbing again!! The general parent body does not know this, and I am sure everyone would be hopping mad if they found out. Any ideas?
