Help! Our BoD wants us to NOT do our big fundraiser!

We didn't fund a few requests because the parents in our group basically felt like they were items that should be a part of the regular school budget. The way we have done our budget has been that we have a few budget meetings, anyone comes who wants to, and then at a general meeting we vote on the entire budget. (The line item vetoing is done at the budget meeting).

We are not a non-profit / 501c3, and I'm wondering if we should pursue that. I'm worried it will cause rifts, though. In what way could that benefit the school at all?

But in a nutshell, if they tell us not to do our fundraiser, I'm thinking we just won't be able to do it. And then what?

this is strange, are you the only school in your district? I mean have they cut out all major fundraisers (which is becoming more and more common) for all schools? It seems like alot of control over your group, are you 501c or are you part of the school. Is your money held in aschool account? I know at one point my principal had left over PTA money in a school account, there became a spending freeze and actually could have taken that money. They didnt and we bought playgroung equipment asap! please share more info so maybe we can help you!

We are about to be asked to not do our big fund raiser. My only guess is because they don't like it that we didn't fund some of their requests last year.

How does your PTA/PTO work together with administration/BoD to decide how to spend money you raise? Who controls the budget?
