candy fund raising - any good?

I too was forced to sell WFC candy bars as a child. One year we got computers for the whole school. Commadore 64s I do believe. The incentives were awesome!! They used items with the school logo on them like mugs, painters hats (which were REALLY cool then), and tote bags. The WFC also had coupons to BK or McDs back then and the product itself is very addictive. I assumed you received an X amount and sent back what didn't sell? How does that work?

I think selling candy bars, etc would be easier. You just get them and sell them, the product is right there. You can even set up booths at local business and events. The draw back is little ones want to be nice and share with their friends sometimes without realizing these things need to be paid for.

My son's school has been selling "World's Finest Chocolate" for 25+ years and we make about $40,000 from around 700 students. It is huge. We do lots of incentives and prizes to get the kids excited. A week full of lots of work, but definitely worth it!

We did the Dollar Bars last year (05/06) in place of what we usually do (the mixed boxes of Hershey, Reeses, etc...), and we made close to $10,000. (we had 225 students last year, and some of them sold more than 3 boxes each). Many of the parents took boxes to work, we even had grandparents asking for boxes to take with them to their work.
This year we're going back to the Hershey, because we profit more from them ... but we didn't do too bad with the Dollar Bars considering it was a "new" thing for us. Good Luck!

I think it depends on how much money you want to make. You have to sell a lot of candy bars if you want to meet your budget needs with this one. I know individual classes have done this to supplement their field trips, etc.

We are trying to decide if we should sell candy (chocolate $1.00 bars) as a fund raiser for this year. We feel we can make 1/2 the profit. Has anyone ever done this kind of fund raising (not the expensive kind of candy--the $1.00 ones where you receive a $1.00 off coupon to a local store, etc...) and was it succesful? Thank you.
