Fundraiser ideas and opinions

I've longed for a tile wall project at our school...but as a major fundraiser, not. Using your figures, your PTO would make about $8,800. If your budget needs that $13,000 you made this year, your group will be underfunded.

Maybe the problem isn't the type of fundraiser, but rather the fundraising company or rep. If the company did things (or didn't do things) that made your job especially difficult or your parents unhappy, discuss the issues with your rep. Or maybe the 2nd VP needs a few extra hands to help review the orders and distribute the merchandise. I know first hand how much work that actually turns out to be. Before you through in the towel, consider if your goals have been met, how many families actually participated, and overall the success of the project. The pain will fade in time

We did one at our school about 5 years ago but I believe that we charged a lot less than $25; Mind you, Our school teeters in and out of Title I, so your results may vary. I'd be blessed to get 10% participation at $25/Tile.

You might also want to check about the business thing, as our District is quite limiting about business logos in the school - like if you sold a tile and a business name appeared on the tile later, it would not be allowed on the wall, so check that out in your district guidelines first.

I think that tile walls are great projects for schools and wonderful creative projects for the kids!!!

The one thing i've always wondered is: how do you update it when new kids pass thru the school? Do you build a new one every 5-7 years and make the old tiles available to the students that created it?

I am 2nd VP of our PTA therefore making me director of Way and Means....Woo Hoo!!

We just completed our 1st major fundraiser of the year, and made decent money from it, close to $13,000, but I HATED it!! I had several parent complaints about the products, it was a lot of work for myself, and almost every school in town is doing it now. And it is selling frozen food, how BORING!!!!

I would like to do something a little more drastic like a Tile wall. Have any of you heard of this? I would like to sell ceramic tiles, that each child can paint with their name and whatever else they like for maybe $25 ea., and offer to businesses for a little more and fill a wall in our school with them. We have an enrollment of 400 kiddos, so if even 75% participated we would be way ahead. I have priced tiles and paint to come to about $2.20 ea., and then a volunteer carpenter to put them together for us.

What do you think, would you do something like this at your school?
