A brief history. Both my wife and myself work in the education filed and both sets of our parents were teachers. I guess you can say education is in our blood. I have been involved in more different fundraising events that I care to count (I am getting a little older).
My daughter is president of her own entertainment company. I have been working with her for the past year or so tring to put put together an entertainment concept that would help the various schools (and organizations) raise money, educate children, provide motovational entertainment, allow the kids to have fun and perhaps most important create something I call the "School Family". I have noticed over the years that the families and schools are growing apart and I feel a monthly (or every two months) family entertainment eveing at the school would help bring them back together. Currently she has the following offerings:
1) Hypnosis shows that shows the children how powerful the mind can be and when used properly can have a great impact on your ability to do well in school. This can be provided either in the form of a comedy hypnossis show or at an all school function during the day. The event has many positive motovational messages throughout.
2) Magic Shows that have an educational theme to them. The goal is to educate the students whiles they are enjoyng the show and not really realizing that there was an educational message being delivered.
3) School dances that have activities every 20 to 30 minutes that will have either an educational theme, teamwork theme or a motovational theme.
4) Santa Telephone Calls. This service places two calls to each student. The first phone call is at Christmas time and that call will (among other things) either thank the child for thier outstanding school work so far or to mention (with the help of mom and dad) and area that the child needs to pay more attention on. The second call would be placed (again from Santa) at the begining of the school year to wish the student luck in their school studies and providing the posiive motovation to do well in school (Santa knows you can do it).
These can be provided as a package or one at a time. She will also commit to sending announcements to the local newspapers, radio stations and tv stations to a) gain positive press for the school as well trying to generate additional (community members) involvement so that the fundraising dollars come from the community and it is not self funded by the parents. All of would be set up so that the school organization would have zero up front cost and would basically gain a share of the proceeds.
The two areas of help I need.
1) Do you think that she is on the right track with her thinking?
2) What has been your experience (parent feedback) when using entertainment as an educational tool as well as a fundraising tool.
