Hey all,

Just thought I'd share a little FYI about something quite cool we are doing new this year for more $$$. Our PTO was approached about sponsoring this new fundraising prgm for a one-time discounted rate. The name of the organization is 'Chess for Children. The way it works is this: they basically provide you with all the supplies and curriculum needed to put on a complete chess club sponsored by the school PTO, they run the 'logistics' of it as far as creating the student curriculum, flyers, volunteer support, and shipping all the stuff to the school! They sent us a complete start-up package with 25 chess sets, and enough of their student chess guides for 50 students. These guides are all color and fully illustrated, the kids love them! Best of all, we don't have to sell nearly as much junk food this year as last, and it actually helps the kids themselves!

The only catch is that in order to keep the overall costs reasonable for the students attending the club, we had to provide some volunteers to help run it. However, they spent some time training and prepping us on how to operate the class and teach the curriculum. I was one of the volunteers obviously, and all is going great so far. The programs only costs around $35/student for a 6 week class (you can't beat $6/hr. for a group lesson these days)! Also the school keeps the chess sets, and the students keep their student guides! We are in the 3rd week of 6, and are supposed to have our 'Sportsmanship Tournament', another cool thing, on the 6th class date.

I talked with the company, and they said they are able to train nationwide so I thought you all might find this useful as well... The PTO keeps 40% of the total revenues. The kids love it, and the parents here are thrilled about it too. Oh, I almost forgot, we will make ~$3000 this year if we run around 2 more sessions, something the principal has already requested.

Just a suggestion ;)
