Market Day

My last school used Market Day but eventually ended our relationship with them. They are a good company with excellent products. Another school in town runs a hugely successful Market Day program, selling to the entire community.

Here were the reasons for our decision:

1. Very poor service from our rep. Communication with the main office did nothing to repair the relationship.

2. Difficulty finding a chairman to run the committee each year. It really is a 20 hour a week job - at the minimum.

3. Lack of volunteer involvement. Typical stuff: Same people every month, no-shows, some bringing their kids to help but who really just got in the way.

4. Folks ordering things and then forgetting to come and get it or calling and saying "I don't have time to come get it tonight. Can you hold it for me for a few days? It's FROZEN!

Just a few reasons why I think the other school was more successful (there are probably more):

1. They took it seriously and ran it like a real business.

2. Tremendous amount of volunteer involvement.

3. Same rep but they found a way to work with her. ?????

Bottom line, I think this is an excellent fundraising opportunity and have seen it run successfully. Just go into it knowing that it's a huge committment and plenty of volunteers need to be seriously on-board to make it work.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."
