Kathleen--
just got your website. Sorry--my son is only 6 and that might be why I haven't read one of your books. They look lovely. He enjoys Harry Potter chapter books so I'll check for your unicorn book at the library. Look forward to reading it!

Kathleen--no I did not know there were booking agencies for this. To my knowledge we've never booked an author (I am new to PTO though). I've often wondered why we hadn't but assumed we didn't know how to go @ doing so or it might be to costly. However, it is probably a good way to promote your books (if your not Mark Brown, Dr. Suess etc.)I probably will start looking into this and surfing the web to see what is available.

Dear Overworked Parents,

I am the author of over 50 books for children. I love to visit schools and fit in as many as I am able to every year. Most of my bookings come from word of mouth, which is wonderful, but usually regional.

There are a number of booking/advertising services contacting authors. Some send pamphlets to PTO's, school districts, etc., others are web based; all claim to be used by thousands of PTO folks, teachers, librarians, nationwide. All charge a fee--some quite high.

My questions:
When you are looking for an author to hire, how do you go about finding one? Are you even *aware* of any of these booking services? Or do you rely on word of mouth and other forms of referral. If anyone has time to jot a quick answer, I would much appreciate it.
