Hi just found this site today so pardon my late response to your post about having a hoedown. Our HSA organized a hoedown last year and called it The Harvest Hoedown. We had it about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. This was perfect timing in between Halloween and Thanksgiving. We hired a fiddler/caller and guitarist who did a wondeful job getting the kids and parents out to dance. They taught the dances as they played. We decorated the gym with a fall theme and served cider and donuts in the cafeteria. This was considered a family night and we did not charge for this event. Everyone who attended had a blast!

I think it will be tons of fun- I found some sites that sell decorations for a very reasonable price too. Cactus, cowboys, etc.

What about getting a saddle, and having the kids try to lasso it? Or how about barrel racing, either run around barrels, or push a wheelbarrow around a course. Our Field Day last year was Western Theme. PTO bought plain brown bandannas and let the kids color on them.
We call ours Pioneer Day. We have a best dressed cowboy/cowgirl contest, pony rides, hayride in the back of a truck, demonstrations on making soap, etc. Good luck
Hi, We just returned from a girl scout camp the theme was western they also wanted a different name than hoe down so they went w/ Wild west roundup... It was cute!
We have decided to have a theme this year for our fall festival- a western Hoedown. However a few members have voiced distaste for the name. Any ideas for a different name?? Still sticking with the theme.
Also any ideas on different games or such?? I was thinking of contacting a local dance studio to see if they would be interested in showing us some line dancing. Also possibly a square dance club to see if they would do the same or do a demo. We are looking into a hayride, but it seems most poeple are afraid to do this due to the liability! Hopefully we will find someone !! I have extremely fond memories of hayrides when I was younger !!
